What is your #Hack4Water
Do you have a cool, innovative idea that
could help South Africa with its water
challenges?
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS),
in partnership with the Open Government
Partnership South Africa (OGPSA)
invite you to submit your water hack to
some of the country's water and sanitation
challenges.
Your hack could be a big idea, solution,
commercial product, community initiative,
school project, home solution, inspiring water
story, app or online tool, research paper,
invention, awareness campaigns, cool
water-related song or dance or something we
haven’t thought of.
You have a chance to win cash prizes,
funding for your project, media
coverage for your winning hack, tablets
and more!

[email protected].
Entries to the challenge will be accepted in
the following categories:
- Individuals or groups of individuals: individuals, teams, communities or NGOs with majority of members over 25 years of age
- Youth or Schools: pupils or youth under the age of 25
- Enterprise category: established small, medium and large companies
- Researcher category: individuals and research teams based at universities and research institutes
- Storytelling: Journalists and individuals reporting on water issues using data and innovative and interactive storytelling methods
Entries will be judged by a
multistakeholder panel.

The concept entitled “Every
Little Drop Count” has been
initiated by Ms Dikeledi
Moletsane, written by Mr.
Ditsela Mosala and video by Mr.
Motsamai Moopeloa. The concept
is based on the awareness that
water is scares and every little
drop needs to be saved and the
better way of doing it is to
make young people aware since
they are the most sector that
captures quickly and can sustain
that education or awareness for
the next generation to
come.

we install a pipe and a funnel
system to collect the water and
store in a mini tank the tank

Description
99 percent of water is used and
wasted in our taps. I have come
up with n Idea of re-introducing
a once used tap. It is safe,
water saving, easy to use, easy
to install, cheap, possible and
easy to implement. The tap is
pushed down when opening it and
when a person leaves it, it
automatically closes itself.
Government can encourage the
community to buy these taps.
Government can delegate
municipalities to install this
taps to communities they provide
their service to and to newly
built RDP houses. The tap can be
used and installed anywhere from
outside taps, kitchen zinc,
basins and in baths. Advantages
of using the taps are as
follows; it forces people to use
water consciously even if they
are not affected by water
shortages, it force people to
use cup or a container when
brushing their teeth, it forces
people to use buckets when
washing cars, it forces people
to use a container or a cup,
when drinking water, it forces
people not multi task when using
water and hose pipes cannot be
connected to the tap, it the tap
does not have threads to hold
the hose pipe. The tap does not
allow water to run on its own
unattended or without been
pushed down to open.
